PrideBride in the Edmonton SunWINNIPEG -- Looking for a gay wedding cake topper? Need a lesbian limo driver? You'll find the answers at Pridebride.com, an online company offering marriage and commitment ceremony planning for same-sex couples, started by two lesbians. Rita and Paula started their venture on the most romantic of days, Feb. 14, and have done brisk business in the four months since. "I estimate we've helped 150 people at this point," said Leonard, 39, adding that she expects her client base to skyrocket after the Ontario Appeal Court decision Tuesday that greenlighted same-sex marriages, which were already legal in British Columbia and Quebec. The same-sex wedding planners have been together for six years, but are waiting until it is legal to tie the knot. In the meantime, they've experienced great demand for their services. "Hey, if you want a wedding where everybody's dressed like a cowboy and there's only rainbows everywhere, you go for it," said Rita. "We've done a great deal of research finding gay-friendly, mainly gay-owned services throughout North America." Pridebride can hook clients up with gay and lesbian wedding invitations, gifts, cakes, vows and honeymoons. And
Paula, 32, is Manitoba's only gay marriage commissioner. |
