WINNIPEG,
MANITOBA
Saying I
Do In Canada

Ask
lesbian and gay couples planning a destination wedding in Canada,
and Winnipeg is probably not the first city that springs to mind.
It doesn't immediately call forth the worldliness of Montreaal,
culture of Toronto, or swank glitterati of Vancouver. With a population
of just over 700,000 people, Winnipeg is home to over 40 ethnic
cultures and the largest Native American population in Canada.
This perky prairie town is also a hot spot for the arts film,
music, fine arts and plays host to several vibrant festivals including
The Winnipeg Folk Festival, The Winnipeg Fringe Festival, The
Jazz Winnipeg Festival, and La Festival du Voyageur, plus an annual
Boozefest, a winter park, and a great shopping and entertainment
site called The Forks (which is situated where the Red
and Assiniboine Rivers intersect downtown).
Rita Leonard and Paula Rutledge, founders of Winnipeg's PrideBride,
a same-sex wedding planning firm, have been arranging weddings
since 2003. They can't stop singing the praises of marrying in
Manitoba.
